LAUNCHPAD

New Album:

Featuring 5 original compositions performed by some of the finest musicians in the Dallas Ft. Worth area, this album serves as a “Launchpad” for Austin as he catapults into his career as a jazz trumpet player.

Each song has a distinctive flavor. Blossom begins with a heartfelt rubato section before the song “blossoms” into an upbeat samba. Next, the album goes in a different direction and features the playful tune “Recess”. Blues-drenched solos, a blazing soli, and a virtuosic bass solo by Guillermo Lopez send you off into the third song: “Concourse”. This song begins with a new sound: a Fender Rhodes orchestrated in a voicing only describable as “minty”. It then crescendos into a climax, then into a more relaxed Brazilian baiao. Then the song starts :). The next song on the album, “Errands”, is one of Austin’s earliest compositions, composed in 2016. The fast-paced hustle and bustle of this song light a fire underneath you that will help you get those errands done. After you’ve finished those errands, you’ll need a rest. That is where the final song, “Night Time”, comes to the rescue. Starting out with a soothing Rhodes intro beautifully painted by June Lee, this song makes you feel like you are on a midnight drive through the city with your eyes gazed upon the stars. The song goes through many changes but ultimately ends in a bombastic drum solo played by Matt Young, who also mixed and mastered the entire record. The phasing at the end makes you feel like the car you were driving just transformed into a spaceship and skyrocketed into the galaxy.
